This mugshot comes to us from the great state of Michigan. Miss Grace Shott, age 20, of Old Mission, was arrested January 25, 1913 on grand larceny charges for stealing a watch.
I only found one article that referenced the crime Grace Shott committed. According to the Detroit Free Press: “Pretty Grace Shott, arrested here by Grand Rapids officers, stole a watch and does not know what she stole it for. She declares she had money and that she did not need it. Her home is in Traverse City.”
As one reader pointed out in the first Mugshot March post this year, the woman in this mugshot doesn’t appear to be particularly frightened!

If she didn’t know why she stole it, she is a kleptomaniac. She steals for the thrill of stealing. It makes her feel in power. I cannot figure out what is going on with her hair though. The photo is so unclear, but it is fascinating nonetheless.

I’m so glad someone mentioned her hair! From the front, it looks like a bob. But I look at the profile and I’m perplexed. It seems to defy the laws of physics.
