Dear Old Spirituals readers, I must apologize! I’ve been awfully slow to publish the story I mentioned to you a couple of weeks ago. It’s no excuse, but I’ve been traveling (I’m in Ohio at present) and working very hard to build up Pivot Talent Development.
However, the story I mentioned to you is about 90% complete. It’s quite a tale! I thought of possibly publishing it as a short story, but I’d rather put it here on Old Spirituals as a serial. I’ll publish the first couple of installments shortly.
In the meantime, here is a rather mysterious photo from the Ohio archives.
I imagine this formal portrait of a young man and woman wearing flowers in their lapels is a wedding picture… but I can’t be sure. What we know is that the picture was taken in southeastern Ohio between 1896-1912. The photographer was Albert J. Ewing, and there’s an inscription on the negative that reads Mr. Henry Blair.
Maybe it’s not mysterious so much as this couple just doesn’t look like they would be together. I wonder how their lives turned out! I did a brief search for Henry Blair and found many men by that name from around that time.
Stay tuned for the first installments in the series!

I guess they could go together. The young man has a rather hard look to him. Looking forward to the new story!

Yes, I look at their eyes. She looks mellow and he looks rather fierce!

The Groom looks scared to me. The Bride looks so in love, sitting close, arms touching. The old well in the background reminds me of the hard work ahead of them and how much they will age over time. Looking forward to the story!

Maybe he is scared! That hadn’t occurred to me but whatever the case, I hope they had a happy life together! 💖
