Musical Accompaniment: Cocaine by Hoyt Axton
This ghostly photograph was taken by Edward Steichen in 1903. It’s named for its subject, Eleanora Duse. She has such large, tragic eyes! How would you characterize the expression on her face?
I’ve got some wonderful and exciting news to share with you: my friend Erik Rivenes is going to post occasionally on Old Spirituals! You may already know Erik through his wonderful podcasts Most Notorious and Minnesota’s Most Notorious: Where Blood Runs Cold and his excellent historical true crime books which you can see here on his Amazon page.
If you haven’t listened to Erik’s show yet or read his books, his knowledge of turn of the century history and true crime will amaze you. Stay tuned!

The woman looks distressed. Looking forward to Erik’s posts!

That’s a good word for her. She doesn’t look frightened exactly but definitely distressed! I’m looking forward to Erik’s posts too!
