I came across these pictures uploaded to Archive.org by the user DroningBore. They look like they might be family photos. They’re so beautiful though, I want to share them with you.
They were labeled rural scenes from Saxony in the early 1900s. I had to look up where Saxony was and it’s part of modern day eastern Germany. Here it is on the map if you’re curious:
One thing that stands out to me in the pictures is how healthy everyone looks. I suppose working outside will do that for you!

The working ladies are so interesting! I wonder if they were always dressed up to get water from the well or sweep the patio. I believe the lady on the left is the same person who was working with the men in the field.

They look dressed up to me too, but I doubt they actually were. Some of the dresses look a bit worn. And would they pose in their nicest clothes with pails of water and brooms? It seems doubtful. Maybe they just seem dressed up to us because everyone is so casual now. I think you’re right about the woman on the left! Good eye!

As a history buff, old photos are intriguing regardless of the subject. These archival photos are splendid. Considering the age of the photo the quality is outstanding.
Historians know the German State of Saxony. After World War I its monarchy was overthrown, circa 1918. Those familiar with the some of the significant events of World War II and the bombing of Germany by Great Britain and the United States are familiar with the name of its capital, Dresden.
Not surprised by the quality of the photos. Some of the best cameras in the world were founded and still made in Germany, e.g. Leica, Praktica (founded in Dresden), AgFaPhoto.

You’re right! The photos are unusually good and they’re in great condition. Especially since it looks like they weren’t staged by a professional photographer. I’m very interested in World War I but I don’t know a lot about German history. So Frederick Augustus III of Saxony abdicated and that was the end of monarchy there… I wonder if he was related to Queen Victoria. It seemed like all the royalty from that time was. Czar Nicholas II, Czarina Alexandra, and the Kaiser..

Lovely pictures! Simpler times then. You may be right about working outside keeping you healthier. I think if people have a purpose, they do better. They felt needed, good clean air and non processed foods! No wonder they look so good. 🙂

Ed’s dad used to tell me he felt so unnecessary and I’d scold him and tell him he WAS necessary to us but now that I’m older, I understand exactly how he felt.

I bet if you polled everyone you know, you’d be surprised how necessary you are! You’re very necessary to me!

Thank you for the kind words. I really doubt the poll would turn out the way you think though.

I’m not being kind 😂 It always amazes me when beloved people don’t realize that they are! I don’t know how it could ever be proven to you but you will just have to take my word for it!
