Continuing with this year’s theme of mugshots featuring unusual hairstyles, I give you Mable Brown, arrested in August 1914.
There isn’t a lot of information about Mable. Unlike some of this year’s featured persons, her exploits were not catalogued in the newspapers. We only know that she was a Canadian who was working as a prostitute in New Orleans when she was arrested for robbery.
She looks pretty jaded for 23 years old. I tried and failed to read her expression in this picture. Just a bit of intuition, but I bet she would have been a very capable person–the kind of person who could get things done.

haha! I was wondering if it was a radio and the bow was actually an antenna, but a file would make things more interesting!

I read her expression as somebody who has shut down. She’s not going to let her outward circumstances touch her inner soul. That hairstyle is something else!
