A Lovers’ Lane of Days Gone By

This photograph of a young couple on a deserted road was taken in St. Joseph, Missouri in or around 1900.

  1. I was a contracted, studio wedding photographer years ago. My wild guess is this is a photo of a newly engaged couple or of a bride and groom after the ceremony. Even today, photos are taken of a newly married couple in a horse drawn carriage.

Whatever the reason for the photo, it is well composed. The position of the carriage using “available” and not “direct” sunlight, creates a romantic atmosphere.

Then, of course, I may completely off-base.

    • Aha! I bet you are right! One thing that struck me as strange is that a photographer came across this couple and they let him take a photograph… that explains it!
