Theodore Roosevelt Operates a Steam Shovel

This picture comes to us courtesy of our very own Nicola Di Crescenzo, aka Jax, who shared this fantastic picture of Old Spirituals long-time favorite, President Theodore Roosevelt.

I wonder if President Roosevelt knew in advance that he was going to be operating a steam shovel. I don’t suppose he had any stained overalls in his closet, but I have to wonder whether an all-white suit in this environment was the best choice for the occasion.

I really think TR could do anything. Create the National Park System, charge up San Juan Hill with his Rough Riders, navigate the uncharted River of Doubt in South America, move from his aristocratic life in New York to ranch in the badlands. Of course he could operate a steam shovel while dressed all in white.
