Musical accompaniment: Me, Myself, and I by Billie Holiday
Today’s edition of Mugshot March was a little grim and that won’t do for a Friday post. To balance it out, here’s a lovely photograph from 1928 that exudes joy.
It was taken by Edward Steichen. (Now that we’ve discovered him, I find his pictures to be irresistible!) The woman in the photograph is Gertrude Lawrence, an English singer, dancer, and theatre actress.

Edward Steichen’s use of lightning in the photograph of Gertrude Lawrence is masterful. It highlights her bare back and catches her smile, all while casting a Rorschach test type shadow on the wall.

You put it perfectly! I have trouble expressing why I like things. But you got it exactly right!
