The wonderful Arnold Genthe took this autochrome photo called Little Plum Blossom, probably after the Great Earthquake when he lived in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
I couldn’t learn anything more about this beautiful little girl who looks so sweet and serene.
I wondered about plum blossoms.
These flowers signify perseverance and better days ahead. This is because plum blossoms appear in the winter, just before spring. They appear when the world is bleak. Sometimes they are seen blooming during snow flurries. But when you see or smell a plum blossom, it’s a sign of spring, and a promise of better days ahead.
They look somewhat similar to cherry blossoms, which also grow very early in the year. Cherry blossoms are light pink and scentless. Plum blossoms have a sweet scent. and may be white, pale pink, or dark pink.
This is Cypress near Carmel, made by Genthe around the same time.

A Meyer Lemon Tree blossoms are also beatifically aromatic. I like to think it is Mother Nature’s way of reminding us of her beauty and power.

We have a Meyer Lemon Tree in our yard. Also, a Tangerine Tree. Both emit an aroma when in bloom that is mesmerizing. I tend to pause for a second to enjoy the scent that seems to provide a sense of nirvana.
