If you’re anything like me, you have a Google News alert to notify you the instant any media outlet publishes a story about the turn-of-the-century.
In that case, you may have already seen this image, courtesy NJ.com; but on the off-chance you missed it, check out Sara Adamson in her 1904 Cadillac. The photograph was taken in Hanover Township, NJ.
Sara must have been wealthy, considering she had a car in 1905, long before they were common. Her clothes look fashionable too. Considering women could not vote, it seems strange that no one had concerns about Sara zipping around in Cadillac convertibles… but maybe she was an exception. You can tell just by looking at her that she could probably take you down if you were ever in a fight.
What’s with the people beside the road – they look like spectators of something. Could they possibly have been waiting to watch Sara drive by in her horseless carriage?
If so, Sara played it off like a modern celebrity: rolling up in her Cadillac, dressed to 9s, and not even glancing at her admirers.
