Today’s movie is another great one! This is Rebecca, the 1940 psychological thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock and starring Joan Fontaine and the great Laurence Olivier!
The movie is based on the book Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. It’s the story of a young woman who marries a fascinating widower only to find out that she must live in the shadow of his former wife, Rebecca, who died mysteriously several years earlier.
The young wife must come to grips with the terrible secret of her handsome, cold husband, Max De Winter, and the jealous, obsessed housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers. (Mrs. Danvers is one of the wickedest characters ever on the screen.)
For whatever reason, I can’t embed the movie here as I have with the others, but it is still free to watch. Click here to watch Rebecca on YouTube!

One of my all-time favorite movies!

My friend Jennifer-Bullock introduced me to the book a few years ago but I only just recently saw this movie. Laurence Olivier is wonderful!

BTW Kimberly, this is one of three films Hitchcock had adapted from Du Maurier writings.
The first was Jamaica Inn in 1939 and the the third was The Birds!

Rob, I am really impressed with your cinematic knowledge! If you were going to recommend one classic movie, what would it be?

I think you would love The Third Man because it’s about a writer like yourself “attempting” to visit an old friend in Vienna not long after WWII ended when it was under military control yet had a dark, seamy underbelly also controlling it known as the Black Market.
Sounds simple yet there’s much, much more to it Kimberly!

As you’ve seen that one already, sticking with Hitchcock- Strangers On A Train is a treat if you haven’t seen it already!
