The moon was used to track time by the Ancients. It has always been a fascination to men on Earth. The moon is visible because of reflected light from the sun; it is a natural satellite of the Earth. The Moon orbits the Earth every 29.5 days, changing from “new moon” to “full moon” and back during that cycle.
On average, the moon is 239,000 miles from earth, yet mankind can see “the man in the moon,” bright and dark features created by the sun’s reflected light onto the moon’s variable, pockmarks surface. The same side of the moon is always seen from earth. All this history, knowledge and lore made man’s landing on the moon in 1969 that much more amazing.

Madmen were thought by some to be governed by the moon. Their insanity would come and go in cycles.
