At age 14, I started drum lessons. My percussion interest evolved over the years from playing on a kit to a marching snare. As a change of pace, having always played with drum sticks, with the help of a teach I started playing hand-drums like a Djembe, a cajón and talking drums. I even played a tongue drum for a bit. To this day I continue to play most days on practice pads to avoid disturbing the neighborhood.
That background has allowed me to enjoy all styles of music. But mystical music is one style that I shrink from. Give me a good old John Phillips Sousa march or a well written lick to stir my emotions.
I would not have guessed you’re a drummer! If I would’ve hazarded a guess, I would’ve thought perhaps a pianist. Sounds like you’re not a big fan of this Rufus Wainwright song?
