Musical accompaniment: This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie
Are you looking for something fun to do this weekend, but aren’t quite sure how you’d like to spend your time?
I’ve assembled some photos to provide some inspiration, beginning with this untitled picture by John G. Bullock from 1910:
You could take an overnight trip.
Spend some time with friends, like these Moorish ladies in Algeria in 1899.
Explore the great outdoors (this picture was taken on the Isle of Wight between 1890 and 1900:
Depending on how much time and resources you have, you might tour Egypt on a camel, as Else Paneth, the wife of Austrian chemist and photographer Friedrich Paneth, did on her honeymoon in 1913.
Or just enjoy reading a good book, as Mark Twain did in this 1908 photo.
Whatever you decide on, enjoy the moment!

With a graduation, two weddings and a bridal shower (grandchildren) all out of town in the next two months, I’ll take a good book with my comfy chair!

I often cite Lois Wyse, “If I had known how wonderful it would be to have grandchildren, I’d have had them first.” It is a truism.
Another great Wyse quote is: “A good friend is a connection to life – a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.” I still have friends from elementary, high school and college. We often reminisce.
