Happy in Advance

musical accompaniment: If You Want to Sing Out by Cat Stevens

I love bookstores.  When I lived in Charlotte, there was a used bookstore called Book Buyers. It was a great store (I’m not sure if it’s still there). They had all kinds of rare old books and the owner had a couple of friendly cats that roamed around all day. .

Once I was there, chatting with another customer in line. He was an older fellow and seemed very happy. He said, “Something good is going to happen today.”

I asked him if he had plans to do something fun and he said, “I just got a feeling. Just sniffing the air.”  That was all there was to it but for some reason his phrase sticks  with me.

This 1895 photograph, The Letter Box, by the prolific Alfred Stieglitz ,shows two little girls depositing an important letter into a mailbox. If I was feeling ambitious I’d say it’s symbolic of expectation of good things coming into your life.  Expectation of good or evil is  a powerful force!

I’m looking for something good to happen. How about you?
