Happy Mother’s Day

This charming elderly lady was photographed between 1890 – 1900. Was she a mother? She appears to be rather well-off: she is in a large bedroom with carpeting, furniture, and artwork. Her crutches are on the stool in front of her, but it’s impossible to know what injury she had. This photo was taken by Charles Henry Currier.

  1. I wonder if she knew they were taking her picture? I would imagine she would have had to since cameras were so big back then. She looks kind of melancholy to me. She’s attractive and she does seem to have a very nice room so not a pauper by any means.
