The wonderful Arnold Genthe took this autochrome photo called Little Plum Blossom, probably after the Great Earthquake when he lived in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
I couldn’t learn anything more about this beautiful little girl who looks so sweet and serene.
I wondered about plum blossoms. They look somewhat similar to cherry blossoms, which also grow very early in the year. Cherry blossoms are light pink and scentless and plum blossoms have a sweet scent. A plum blossom may be white, pale pink, or dark pink.
These flowers signify perseverance and better days ahead. This is because plum blossoms appear in the winter, just before spring. They appear when the world is bleak. Sometimes they are seen blooming during snow flurries. But when you see or smell a plum blossom, it’s a sign of spring, and a promise of better days ahead.
This is Cypress near Carmel, made by Genthe around the same time.

A Meyer Lemon Tree blossoms are also beatifically aromatic. I like to think it is Mother Nature’s way of reminding us of her beauty and power.
