A Global Phenomenon: 1907’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World entries

I’m going to give you a little time to guess who was the Most Beautiful Woman in America.

In the meantime, I’ll tell you the Chicago Tribune’s quest to find the most beautiful woman in America touched off a fever in other countries.  Most of the countries that were hosting competitions were European and Australian, but there are some representatives from other places, like Cuba, Guatemala, Japan, and  El Salvador.

There are some very interesting cultural differences in dress, hair, and style. It’s too bad that this is being lost to globalization.

Group 1

Group 2

Group 3: South Africa

Group 4

Group 5: Central America

Group 6: Paris

Group 7: Great Britain

Not every entry is here. Some of the pictures I found were too damaged to use (not unusual in newspaper archives) and many of them didn’t run in the American papers.  I did find a few of the winners from other countries. I’ll show them all to you in the same post with the most beautiful American woman.
